{"id":82,"date":"2009-06-16T19:56:53","date_gmt":"2009-06-17T02:56:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.aaronbarkerphotography.com\/?p=82"},"modified":"2009-06-16T19:56:53","modified_gmt":"2009-06-17T02:56:53","slug":"provo-freedom-festival-2009-flag-retirement-ceremony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.aaronbarkerphotography.com\/index.php\/2009\/06\/16\/provo-freedom-festival-2009-flag-retirement-ceremony\/","title":{"rendered":"Provo Freedom Festival 2009: Flag Retirement Ceremony"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Announcements\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/73125965@N00\/3634469650\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/3662\/3634469650_682357c0d9.jpg\" alt=\"Announcements\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Monday night I went to the <a href=\"http:\/\/freedomfestival.org\/\">Provo Freedom Festival<\/a> flag retirement ceremony.\u00a0 I have attended this many times over the years, and appreciate the reverence the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Flag_of_the_United_States\">American flag<\/a> is given during it.\u00a0 For any who may not know, burning the flag is the proper way to dispose of a flag when &#8220;it is no longer a fitting emblem for display&#8221; (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flagkeepers.org\/FlagRulesofEtiquette.asp#Section_176:_\">US Flag Code Section 176<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Honorably Retired\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/73125965@N00\/3633659929\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/3345\/3633659929_f5e8900431.jpg\" alt=\"Honorably Retired\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At first glance a photo like the above may conjure up the opposite feelings then it is intended.\u00a0 Usually you see the flag being burned in protest of the USA and the images are fairly offensive.\u00a0 But when you think about it, where would you want this flag that you hold dear to end up?
